This Is Not...   -- Primis     8-11-01,  9:50PM
This is *NOT*.

You see this thing here called life?  Curious little thing you allegedly live every day?

Well, contrary to popular belief inside your head, worlds don't revolve around you, things don't stop and adjust when they get out of kilter with your expectations.  And most importantly, the rest of us are not obligated to *CARE*.

I work in what many have called one of the highest-stress jobs out there and deal with seriously irate customers on a daily basis.  To me, it's not really that bad usually -- I've been in much worse situations for stress, even if they don't necessarily involve someone screaming at you and calling you names.

Today however was a perfect example of a bad day in this realm, and it spilled over to things outside of work, so it's gotten under my skin and it's time to spout some hard truths like the above.  So unless you're someone I have close ties to, or are a friend, or someone else exceptional in my life, here are the hard truths you need to learn:

(1)  I feel no sympathy for dumb-a**es who do dumb-a** things.  That's harsh but it's the truth.  If you're stupid enough to think you can get away with something and you don't, then good you deserve to pay the piper.  If you're really dumb enough to treat people a certain way and then are surprised when those people don't want to be treated that way anymore and exit the scene, I have no sympathy.  Time to grow the heck up and start treating people as adults and equals.

If you're like this, Darwinism was MADE for people like you and I wish at some point it'd kick in...

(2)  I don't have to do ANYTHING for you.  I don't have to take any extra steps to appease you.  I don't have to do crap for you.  And in most cases, you have a lovely 3-second window in which I *will* judge you and decide if I'm even going to try to help you or not.  If you blow that, too bad.  You can't make me if I'm not in the mood so you may as well give up right now.

(3)  I *CAN* and will destroy you if you keep giving me reasons.  I am not a nice guy, after all.  This always boggles me as it relates to work.  People calling me up to complain about their service, and then berating me and even threatening me and calling me names directly, when they know with a few keystrokes I can make things even worse than they already are for them.  Sure I might lose my job, but if I want I can make it MISERY for someone to clean up the mess I leave, and even more misery for you.

So don't think I won't.   I do have it in me to, and I have more than proven it in the past, that if you push me too far, I'll leave a smoldering crater where you once where.  And on nights like tonight, I'll have no second-thoughts of employing such methods.

(CONCLUSION)  It is not the rest of the world's responsibility to take care of things, or you.  The world doesn't owe you anything.  Life isn't fair.   I'm not fair.   I don't have to be fair.  And most importantly of all, until one accepts this and make the necessary changes in their life, one is always going to be disappointed.
