Ladies and Gentlemen, Garth-- er, Chirs Gaines?  -- Primis                    9-29-99,  1:26PM
I've managed to avoid dealing with the issue of Garth Brooks over the years mainly because I refuse to deal with Country/Western music.  But now Garth has decided to venture into my territory, and it is time someone says what needs to be said...

A Long Goodbye to Tiger Stadium  -- Primis                    9-27-99,  10:05PM
Saying goodbye to an old friend is never easy.  Nevertheless, the Ballpark at the Corner was sent off in classy and memorable fashion tonight.  Oh yeah, and the postgame ceremonies were pretty good too...

Addictive Online Combat Game -- Primis                         9-27-99,  2:05PM
Even though I have slowly become removed from the online gaming scene (radio, MP3, writing, and music eat up most of that time anymore) I've become addicted to a free online squad-based combat game called Chain of Command by 2AM.  Think of Close Combat meets X-Com, only buggier, and you have a pretty good idea of the game.  Nevertheless it is a fun romp for anyone into WWII squad-based combat, or anyone into military strategy.  With limited ammo and weaponry, you have to try to survive and capture objectives all while other players' enemy squads are firing at you.  To be honest combat with experienced players tends to be VERY realistic -- if your squad of 4 all survive a hot battle, you are either very good or very lucky, or sometimes both.  Anyone interested, check it out. It's free, although there are some very annoying issues with the game such as the client software (but hey, it's free).

The Final Game at the Old Ballpark at the Corner of Michigan and Trumball... -- Primis                                                     9-27-99,  1:15AM
I have no choice but to put a blurb on here about the old ballpark.  Later this afternoon the last major league baseball game ever will be played at Tiger Stadium as the Detroit Tigers play the Kansas City Royals.  I'll be taking care of engineering the game for a local radio station and am honored, yet a bit disappointed I won't be able to just enjoy and take in the moment. More on this hopefully tomorrow night, after the game and the realization that one of my personal favorite places in the world has seen its last pitch sets in.

Ryder Cup Returns to America In Dramatic Fashion  -- Primis               9-26-99, 7:00PM
In the battle for golf's most coveted trophy, the US team did what everyone called impossible and came back from a 10-6 deficit to the European team going into Sunday (the final day) to win 14 1/2 - 13 1/2.  Justin Leonard, much-criticized by people during the Ryder Cup, shut everyone up with a fantastic performance to halve his match with Spaniard Jose Maria-Olazabal, and the rest of the US team dominated.  For more, check out the story at ESPN.COM.

... On The Site With No Name...  -- Primis               9-25-99, 1:00PM
I've been threatening to launch this site for what seems like forever.  This is the final death knell for "3rd Rik".  Over a period of 4 years "3rd Rik" entertained readers and brought many laughs, but it's time to move on to a forum with a lot more flexibility and reader-interaction.  Well, welcome to that site.  This will be a frequently-updated site with rants, cool news notes, just plain funny stuff, and hopefully submissions from YOU!  The first order of business -- what the heck should we name this site?  Send in your suggestions, and if you're lucky we'll choose your suggestion.
