Erm?...   -- Primis     11-8-00,  12:45PM
Yes I know the Poll is broke.

No I don't know if or when it will be fixed, nor do I know why it suddenly has ceased functioning.

Yes, it's ticking me off too.

Yes, I know other things are acting weird as well, and no I don't know why.  Something in the HTML is off somewhere, and since I have a sinus infection I'm not terribly enthused about poring over the raw HTML and Javascript right now to find out just what is going on.

Stay tuned though. We'll get it fixed when it's fixable.

Raze Washington DC!   -- Primis     11-8-00,  12:40PM
No, this doesn't have anything to do with the election.  I recently was inspired to go to Best Buy and purchase C&C: Red Alert 2.  They had it on sale for $29.99, but not only that you got 4 free CD's of all 4 soundtracks to the Command & Conquer series of games.  I mainly bought it for the soundtracks, to be perfectly honest.

Since my personal system is still... *ahem*.... unavailable for comment... (ie: In the shop)... I installed it on another machine here in the house and toyed around with it for a couple hours out of morbid curiosity.  I never have cared for the C&C series much, dating back to the original..

And you know what? I still completely suck at Command & Conquer.  However I like Red Alert 2.  Garrisoning troops in buildings... sending a swarm of Rocketeers at the enemy base... airdrops... unlike previous C&C series games, this one feels much much better and seems to have a certain "Wheee!" factor the previous ones were missing.  Harrier strikes on the city of Washington DC are definitely fun.

My one complaint about the game is a rather relative one -- I hate SuperWeapons.  While they're kinda' neat in a way, it's annoying that someone can Nuke your base every 5 minutes, or cause a lightning storm over your base every couple minutes.  I absolutely hated the Nuke capabilites in Starcraft as well (still my favorite RTS ever) because of the potential abuse of them, but it's worse in RA2.  Naturally, if you Skirmish against the computer and they take Soviets, nukes are all you'll see for the whole 10 minutes of the game before you get tired of it and quit the mission.

Even so, SuperWeapons can be turned off, and when they are the game seems to play MUCH better for someone who sucks at it like myself.  The rest of the units are cool and definitely have unique feels to them.  I like the Attack Dogs, and Soviet Flak Cannons are evil.

So give Red Alert 2 a try.  You might not fall all over it, but this time around it really is a pretty good game.  Starcraft fans will undoubtedly still find Starcraft more fun (I still personally doubt any traditional RTS game will ever be more fun than Starcraft), but I doubt they'll find Red Alert 2 so bad they won't have fun with it.

Election Post-Mortem   -- Primis     11-8-00,  12:40PM
Well, now that all the ballots have been cast, there's one thing EVERYONE here in the U.S. can agree upon.

Any districts, precincts, etc, still using paper ballots are run by complete morons.  Seriously, anyone watch TV coverage from voting locations?  How the heck can that many places still be casting them by paper ballot?!  GWB voted by paper ballot.  I mean my God, I live in the Middle Of Nowhere, MI, and even *we* have voting machines. What's the problem here?!
