"When Men Were Men and Game Designers Were Weird..."   -- Primis            6-15-00,  4:05PM
Easter Eggs are, quite frankly, a lost art in PC software, and in life in general.  It used to be there was always something hidden in everything, because people always saw to it these wonderful gems were there to be found.

http://www.eeggs.com/ is a cool site that celebrates Easter Eggs -- not just in software, but in TV, websites, movies, and music as well.  Be careful, you can waste an hour or three there quite easily once you get going.  But it's all neat to read through and I highly reccomend it to anyone with some idle time to deal with...

When Perfection Isn't Enough.   -- Primis            6-15-00,  3:55PM
OK, first of all many "no-thanks" to Zibblsnrt for attempting to get Quake TeamFortress and Quake CTF to take over my life again, and nearly succeeding.  In fact, he still might succeed.  Time will tell though...

At any rate my New Toy Of the Moment<TM> is still a copy of NHL '99 I picked up at the local Babbage's for a mere $3, and so I went cruising around online looking for addons for it.  Surprise -- there's a ton.

NHL '99 Complete is my favorite site so far.  Not only can you get roster updates (current as-of, oh, a month ago or so), but you can also get arena and goalie updates as well, along with other cool stuff.  I spent a good hour and a half there the other night downloading and installing all sorts of addons to make my game look purdy.  The stuff there is high-quality.

Blue Jackets and Wild Could Get Some Gems.   -- Primis            6-13-00,  10:25PM
The NHL Expansion Draft is coming up on June 23rd, and some big-name players were left open to the draft by their current teams.  This is probably enough to make Atlanta and Nashville wish they were joining the league this next season too.

So who was left unprotected?  Names like Mark Messier, Igor Larianov, Claude Lemieux, Rick Tochett, Paul Coffey, and John Vanbiesbrouck.  Make no mistake about it, Columbus and Minnesota could get some really good players out of this draft.  There's just one catch -- they have to be able to sign them and pay them what they'll be asking.

You can view the entire Protected/Unprotected list here at ESPN.COM.  Within a couple of days I hope to have a mock draft set up that will show you what players I think the Blue Jackets and Wild might actually take.

One thing's for certain though -- there's the serious potential that expansion might not be rough at all for these two new teams, and they could contend for the playoffs immediately.

Thank You, PC Gamer.   -- Primis            6-10-00,  3:25PM
This time of years stinks for PC Gaming fans.  For the most part there are no blockbuster releases, or even good demos to find.

Perhaps that's why PC Gamer did a little something different with their CD in their July issue this time around.  Instead of sifting through a bunch of mediocre demos that can't hold your attention span, PC Gamer made some phone calls, wrote some letters, and presumably did a lot of kissing up to some game publishers.

The end result is a CD full of *full registered versions* of some of your favorite classic games -- like X-Com: UFO Defense, Wing Commander, Duke Nukem II, Descent, Terminal Velocity, Alone in the Dark, Ultima Underworld, and plenty more! PCG even hid a few other full games on the CD, and you'll have to browse aroudn to find them, but it's worth it.

It's very cool.  Go out and buy the July issue of PCG that comes with the CD, and enjoy some REAL games for a change -- for free!

A Most Dangerous Game...   -- Primis            6-10-00,  2:55PM
Some people have caled it one final gasp, while others have pointed to it as proof that Microsoft thinks they're invincible.  One thing is for sure though, their latest move in the shadow of the ruling against them should be a terrifying one to anyone who uses a PC...

My New Obsession.   -- Primis            6-2-00,  12:25AM
Not much needs to be said here.

An honest-to-goodness client/server version (online) of DOOM is making the rounds.  If you have any pride in your status as a gamer (if you are a gamer), and access to either DOOM ][ or Ultimate Doom, you'll go there now, download it, and have fun.

A warning though, it's only been out for maybe a week or so, and is incredibly unstable still.  Also, if you haven't played DOOM in a while you'll get waxed at first.  But believe me, it is cool, and runs nicely on 28.8/33.6 connections with a mid-end machine. So go download csDoom... NOW!
