| With the launch of
Digerat.com I'll be posting news and
articles in two places now. Keep in mind, Digerat is
*not* "my site". I'm going to essentially keep
this site the same, Digerat is going to catch the technical and truly
hardcore posts and news that I tend to come up with but not post here.
Prìomh, thusly, will continue to be the catch-all for anything
qualify under the banner of Nifty-tude<tm>.
Digerat should also shortly be featuring some not-so-technical things
like a "Movie of the Week" feature, along with other reviews of games, hardware,
gadgets, and such. Finally, expect guides, tweaks, the occasional download,
and other not-so-linear stuff like the odd rant.
Digerat also has the added bonus of a Comments system which so very
haven't felt like messing with on this site, so feel free to speak up on
it about any post you might see. And no, no way am I adding Comments
onto this site. Just... no... ;-) |

| After a brief time with no update, the Best of IRC
is back with a large update and currently boasts Version 3.0.
BoIRC v3.0 (.TXT)
BoIRC currently boasts 237K of raw text. That's... a lot.
Have fun, kiddies... |

| I realize that back in September we missed the boat on
this... then again last September wasn't a normal month for anyone.
Back on September 25th, 1999, what was to become
Prìomh.com was launched. It
had no name, it had no direction, and even less content. Over two years
later, it has a name, still has no direction, and little to no content.
;-)
At the time it meant the death of "3R" (this upset some people), which
had been kicking around online, across oceans, and showing up in all sorts
of strange places since Fall of 1996 and still ranks as my most-demented
work yet. I still have no idea why Europeans took to "3R" so well,
and I'm not sure I ever want to know...
At any rate, this site has lasted longer than I thought it would. It's
hard to find/create content and update regularly on a site like this. It's
also not easy to maintain, as there is no scripting involved, it's all done
manually. And thus far I've managed to keep it going. Sure it'll
go weeks, months sometimes without being touched, but I always come back
to it.
I'm realizing something -- sites don't last this long. They really
don't. Those that do are oftentimes static and almost never updated.
The point? For those of you that weren't aware, I was seriously
considering giving the axe to Prìomh in the last couple of
months. I wasn't sure it was accomplishing anything by existing, and
that was irritating me. The hits the site generally gets are minimal
and it has no real place it seems. It sometimes feels like a waste
of time. But then I looked around and realized -- it's still here.
It's still here. In that regard it has totally kicked the tail of a
lot of other sites. And so I'm not going to kill it. For the
time being I'm keeping the site and sticking to it. I still have no
clue what place it has in life, but it's still here and that's good enough
for me for now. |

| A while back (a year and a half maybe?) you'll remember
we threw up a link to a site done by a group of people who were creating
elaborate models and space fleets using Legos. Well I'm here to tell
you today that someone else has made The Leap<tm>.
The Foundry features models that
blow my mind and will blow yours. Sure they're all Mecha of some form
or another but... yeesh.... who knew you could do that? These are truly
incredible models, so go have fun checking out their Showcase. I'm
not sure which is more terrifying, the models or the diorama they created
to look like a Mecha factory. Amazing.
We've seen the Lego Matrix. The Lego Monty Python and the
Holy Grail made you laugh. And now we have the
Lego Lord of the
Rings. This would dismay, if not for how neat some of the things
in it are, specifically the Nazgul and some of the settings like Moria and
the Ford of Bruinen scene.
And then finally we have.... well.... ummm, some guys who obviously
need help but at least found a creative outlet for all that strangeness.
LegoDeath.com is exactly what
you think it is. Please don't make me explain any more... |
| Console Gaming 101.

| Recently my roommate acquired an X-Box. Recently
as in "day-of-release", which by now was several months ago, but anyhow...
So I've become exposed to the console world of gaming once again.
This meant NFL Fever, Halo, Gotham Racing, and lots
and lots of Dead or Alive 3.
Now... most of my circle of friends are all more PC Gamers than console gamers.
We're more apt to sit down for a 4-hour session of Dark Age of Camelot
than sit in front of a TV playing some console "kiddie game". However...
a gamer is a gamer, and we're all console vets of some sort or another.
College does that to a person.
I, in my opinion, slipped into "vet" console status when a friend and I binged
on Twisted Metal II on the Playstation for 13 hours straight one day, and
solidified by the countless hours sunk into Super Smash Bros. and Goldeneye
on Nintendo 64. I've been with consoles since back in the Atari 2600
days, mind you -- but multiplayer console gaming is a whole different animal.

| Archon was a game on the C64 that my brother-in-law and
I wasted many, many hours dueling each other. Chess meets arcade-combat
-- I mean, how could you not love the game?
Alas... version since have all sucked. Controls in Archon Ultra were
horrible and the graphics nearly as bad. And I began to miss Archon,
and the warm, comforting feeling of knowing a Golem was always out there
trying to smash me...
Well, some dedicated Brits have set out to remake the game. Dubbed
Archon: Evolution, the
game looks to be progressing nicely. It's true to the original, and
I was delighted to see that they aren't abandoning the 2D interface of the
original -- just touching up some of the graphics for the characters.
Also, collision detection is supposed to be perfect, which was always
a worry in the version I played. Keep an eye on this one -- I'm not
the only one pining for Archon with Netplay, and they're promising it... |

| One of my favorite mindless conversations that always
comes up is something that was spawned a while back by a couple friends and
I during a completely-unrelated conversation (isn't that always the way?).
We came to the inevitable conclusion that life needs soundtracks.
Yes, that's right. As Zib said, "I'd buy 'Music From and Inspired
by The Rik Kyser Show'.

| "Still Not Dead!...".
--

1-17-02, 2:45PM |
| The site is not dead -- I've taken an impromptu absence
from doing it in order to refresh myself and do get some new ideas. While
the ideas for this site still hold true, the fact of the matter is that it
can get cumbersome and tiresome to have to try and come up with new ideas
and interesting news and links.
And let's face it -- the internet is getting less- and less-interesting every
day because where creativity once reigned, things like greed, "professionalism",
and the like have shoved it out of the way.
There are several other side projects that have been taking up time and probably
will continue to do so, but I've been still producing material and writing
articles throughout the dead period. And I'll admit it, I got pretty
addicted to a certain online RPG for a time (*sob*). But in the next
week or two I expect to resurrect Prìomh with all-new material, if
all goes according to plan.
Stay tuned. Thanks. |
