| A while back I laid plans for a 24/7 streaming audio
station of a much-ignored format. While I have yet to put them
into full force due to bandwidth and hardware limitations, someone finally
beat me to it. ;-)
Christcore is a 24/7
streaming MP3 station devoted wholly to a format noone else has attempted
yet either online or in the airwaves -- Hard Christian Music. Christian
Metal, Industrial, Hardcore, and more. Right now the playlist is still
being setup and added to since its recent launch, but it will be interesting
to see the reaction to this by fans and the community since right now it's
the only game in town for those interested in it. |

| ESPN.COM has been running
features on the Best and Worst of sports in this century, and of of my favorites
was the one on the
Top 10 Worst
Sports Uniforms of the Century. They pretty much nail every one
right on the money save for one inexcusable exclusion -- The Cleveland Browns
who, despite their nickname, wear Orange primarily. And by the way,
any of you lucky enough to have never witnessed the Vancouver Canucks uniforms
of the early 80's, consider yourself lucky. |

| Some of you may have noticed the lack of posts/updates
on the site lately. Well, rest assured it is merely because of
the holidays (and a nutso work schedule for a while as well), and that the
site will return to its normal updating after the new year. Besides,
most everything has slowed down for the holidays anyhow. Here's wishing
all our readers a great New Year, and hopefully none of you are silly enough
to actually sit down and watch that disgrace that will be the Sugar Bowl
on Jan. 4th. *wink* |

| Wow. The latest Results form the Prìomh.com
Poll are interesting. Almost noone is in favor of the NCAA College Football
BCS Ranking system, which is no shocker. However, the majority of votes are
split between a Playoff and to return to the Poll system. Fascinating.
Maybe it is really true that the only way to settle this is to decide
the champion based upon a massive Fan-Based Poll? |

| Detroit Red Wings broadcaster Mickey Redmond is a funny
guy and a quote machine. He isn't that way intentionally, it's just
that he's old-school and can't help himself. Golden ones such as "Katie
bar the door" and "The gathering of the clans" are well-known by anyone who's
ever watched Mickey,
but there's plenty
more at this site devoted to all the "Mickey-isms". Funny stuff,
but the most amusing item is an allusion to the upcoming Bud Lynch Pronunciation
Guide (Lynch is the PA Announcer at Joe Louis Arena who has, shall we say,
his own creative ways of pronouncing player names). |

| I was talking on IRC last night with Zibblsnrt and
Sev and the topic of the Russia-Chechnya conflict came up, as well
as the section
relating to Russia's woes in taking Grozny. The media is doing a horrible
job of covering in this IMHO. The basic gist is that the once-mighty Russian
army is trying to take Grozny and keeps getting pushed out by rebels while
taking heavy losses. Russia of course denies all this, despite all
the evidence to the contrary.
It's a matter of pride at this point with the Russians. What does
that say for them if they can't take an lone city of rebels? Latest
developments are that, after shelling and bombing this city for what seems
like forever, that Russian armor is now attempting to converge on the city
from 3 sides -- and still meeting very forceful resistance.
They won't take it. You can't defeat men fighting like that who fear nothing.
Despite the fact that the rebels have nothing heavier than mortars. |

| Charles Shultz announced today that
he's
retiring his comic strip "Peanuts". It's kinda' sad because Peanuts
has been around so long. And also because those of you who remember
"3rd Rik" will recall probably the funniest offering from it
involved a Garfield-Peanuts crossover (we really need to do another one similar
to that again, Dave... perhaps a "3R Classic"?). However, to be perfectly
honest "Peanuts" had stopped being funny for quite a while, or even
amusing. It is time. |

| We're going to beat EVERYONE to the punch on this
*thumb nose at Slashdot and every other online computer/tech news
source*. Tomorrow (Sunday December 12th) is International Shareware
Day. This is a day meant to honor those who have programmed shareware
applications and games we use every day but don't think about, and
more often than not don't pay for on the honor system. Those in a giving
mood are encouraged to write a check to register your favorite shareware.
But this DOES beg one question... is there an International Vaporware Day
as well? *grin* |

| Zibblsnrt finds some of the neatest coolest
toys online, and this is no exception. Good ol' Zib pointed me to a freeware
program called
Its Full of
Stars! that lets you create your own star systems either randomly or
manually, including civilizations and asteroid belts and such. It's
veddy veddy interesting and cool, but to get the most out of it you should
have a powerful machine (it runs on lesser machines but is ssslloowwww). |

| Last time we took a brief glimpse into the hunble
beginnings and history of the NHL. And now it's time to look back on
the roots of another popular North American sports league -- the NFL. Here
are some of the highlights from the first years of the NFL, building itself
to what we know today.

| Something's Rotten in
Zamboni-land. --
Primis
12-05-99, 4:05PM |
| Some of you will remember the post a while back
about Zamboni.com and their Zamboni
Driver of the Year award . As of December 1st voting closed and...
Jimmy MacNeil of Brantford,
Ontario has been named winner.
But not so fast, Chester.
Rumors have been swirling in regards to the voting, most of them claiming
that Zamboni.com doctored the results. After some research on my part,
the final vote tally being claimed now is way, way, way lower than the vote
tally was a month or so ago.
FOXSports Detroit and UPN 50 divulged a bit more information the other night,
claiming that of all things the Canadian government stepped in and demanded
that a bunch of votes be taken away from Al Sobotka (under the accusation
of ballot-stuffing), who at the time was winning the voting. Other
media sources unofficially have expressed the same suspicion.
The final tally according to Zamboni.com is -- Jimmy MacNeil 177,556....Al
Sobotka 97,261. Which is suspicious considering MacNeil drives
Zamboni for a municipal ice arena that doesn't even house a minor league
hockey team, yet Sobotka drives for the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena
-- logic would dictate that obviously MacNeil's numbers claimed have been
doctored via ballot-stuffing. A guy from Brantford, ONT just can't
get 177,500+ votes with no campaign. And most of the votes taken away
from the ballot were Sobotka's -- if not all.
This is wrong folks. It smells and stinks, and Zamboni.com needs to
know how bad this stinks. If it bugs you as much as it bugs me, make
Zamboni.com hear about it. Email them at
info@zamboni.com and let them know
you don't appreciate how they handled the situation -- the Zamboni Driver
is sacred, not a political tool. |

| We just added a new voting quizlet to the site and
dang is it slick. It took some serious doing on my part to get it but
it's exactly what I was wanting so there it is below the menu on the left!
Topics will vary, same as the posts on this site *grin*. Enjoy
folks. |
| More on New Name, Logos.

| Thanks to everyone for all the feedback I've recieved
thus far on the new site name and logos. The general response has been
"COOL!", followed by "How do you pronounce that?", with a few
cases of a third question, "How did you make that neat accented 'I' ?".
Everyone REALLY seems to like the SportSlam Online logo as well.
That logo will be appearing as a header on all SportSlam Online
stories on this site from now on.
We missed our target date for the "official" site launch, which was yesterday.
So today will mark the official site launch and more people will be
let in on the secret that has been Prìomh.com.
Thanks and check back often! |

| New Site Name! *cross
fingers*. --
Primis
12-01-99, 1:25AM |
| Well after two months of going on without a name (and
few suggestions), we appear to have a clever new site name finally...
Prìomh.com. As always there is a story behind the
name -- "prìomh" means "first" in Scottish Gaelic, and
"Susbaint Prìomh" is our creed... "Substance first". You'll
notice the site has no terribly flashy graphics, script, or applets, and
I hope to keep it that way because this site is more about the posts and
content than about eye-candy. There is also a story behind the logo -- ask
if you're curious.
Prìomh.com is happy to put before you this site, in conjunction
with SportSlam Online. Sure it's hard to spell and even
harder to pronounce, but that's part of the fun.
The current logo is probably temporary -- hopefully I'll render something
better in the near future. But it will have the same simplistic design.
And thanks for supporting Prìomh.com. |
