NHL And NBA Are More Equal Than You Think

Here's an interesting article on globeandmail.com regarding some facts and numbers of how the NHL is doing on television compared ot the NBA (found courtesy of Kuklas Korner:

The National Hockey League is widely perceived to be a sport going nowhere in the United States.

Hockey? Hardly worthy of a place at the table with football, baseball and basketball.

But audience results from last Sunday afternoon suggest otherwise.

The NHL telecast on NBC (Boston Bruins-Pittsburgh Penguins...

301 Days, 10 Years Ago Today.

10 years ago today, March 26th, 1997, 301 days of anger and pain were sorted out at Joe Louis Arena, and revenge was served in full.

It's really difficult to put into words what happened that night unless you were an Av fan or a Red Wings fan. Even so though, NHL fans around the league acknowledge it as one of the the defining hockey moments of the 1990's, and even the modern hockey era as a whole. This wasn't simple goonery, or silliness... it was what happened when a player...

The Hockey Recap

Sometimes you don't want the pictiures or ads or other filler. You just want a single page with all the NHL info you can possibly imagine, and then some. An NHL crib sheet if you will, of any info you might possibly want.

Welcome to the Hockey Recap.

Sometimes I REALLY love the Internet. This is definitely one of those times...

5 Years

I've been asked to make some comments here on the 5 year anniversary of what's become known ad nauseum as 9-11. This really isn't my thing and I've deliberately avoided reading anything about the anniversary because of my own personal feelings about it but... OK, well here they are, by request.

Guitar Hero II Takes Shape

Sorry for the lack of updates lately.

As the set list for Guitar Hero II begins to take shape, I suppose it's high time for some comments on where it's heading.

D.I.Y. Coca-Cola

The Guardian has a great article up right now detailing the tale of two women out to create their own Coca-Cola.

The result is, allegedly, very VERY close to Coke (a hint that perhaps it's even better?). One of the most-curious things about this D.I.Y. recipe is that it uses vodka (in extremely small quantities, but vodka nonetheless).

So for those of you with the time and resources... do try to make a batch and let me know how it turns out. Now, who wants to work on Mt....

Dead Poetic's Brandon Rike Speaks

HM Magazine (yes I know that's redundant) has a really, really good interview with Brandon Rike, the lead singer of Dead Poetic, in their current issue.

It's a good read. Brandon is an interesting guy and it's... well, interesting... to see him speak so frankly about his band, music in general, and what he sees going on in the music world. He seems to actually have a better understanding of rock fans (and his band's own fans) than most musicians out there. I also don't know that...

Microsoft's WGA Nightmare

MS's Most Not-Excellent WGA Adventure appears to be getting worse. Windows Genuine Advantage is making enemies at every turn, and it's getting tougher and tougher for MS to hjide the fiasco.

alexkoc over on the MSDN site tried to defend WGA and even added that the reports of more than a handful of false positives were simply a bunch of indefensible lies and statistics.

Well... two users then posted very specific details about them, in fact, getting a false positive from WGA... to...

Because Edmonton is Still Edmonton

Interesting link found off Kuklas' Korner. It's a candid look in the U. of Alberta school paper as to just why it is most players flee the Edmonton Oilers at the first opportunity.

"It’s really time for a reaction besides 'Holy Sh*t! How can you not love Edmonton? You’re a God when you play here!' when someone leaves town or doesn’t sign here as a free agent. There’s a reason that the biggest acquisitions this off-season have been Daniel Tjarnqvist and Marty Reasoner: guys don’t...
