Twice is a Trend, Third Time Needs to Be A Shooting Offense

You'll remember back on October 1st I wrote a bit on Michigan State football, and (accurately) stated that MSU's biggest fault and weak point is their coaching staff, and wondered how long it'd be before everyone else got a clue that the Spartans can have the most-talented team in the universe and still never, ever win because the coaches would find a way to screw it up.

I'm going to keep this brief as I can.

John L. Smith sucks. His offensive coordinator sucks. His defensive coordinator sucks.

They all suck. The coaching staff blew it against Notre Dame and the kids on the field still managed to pull it out for them, somehow, despite every effort by the staff to throw that game away. Today, the MSU coaching staff found ways to lose even when Peko returned a fumble for a TD late to tie it back up.

Michigan State is wasting its time with this staff.

And so, they did it again today, for the 2nd game in a row and 3rd time in 5 weeks. The kids played their guts out, and the coaches found a new and interesting way to throw the game away anyhow.

After the game, on the radio, Smith said "This one's on the coaches".

No $#@&, Sherlock? Just like every other loss anymore, you mean?

Flash back 2 years ago to September 2003.

John L. Smith plays Damon Dowdell at QB, when every single person who had ever seen Dowdell play knew he was an incompetent waste of a roster spot who wouldn't have cut it at even a Division III program, and MSU loses to Louisiana Tech.

At the time I wrote the following on the event:

"Today was the day that www.firejohnlsmith.com first was born as an idea in MSU fans' heads, a whole 3 games into his term as head football coach at Michigan State.

Smith cost MSU the game against La. Tech today when he elected to play QB Damon Dowdell for over a half after starting QB Jeff Smoker was injured. MSU fans know what Dowdell is capable of, and it's absolutely nothing...

...There's NO excuse for Smith to not play true-freshman Drew Stanton. He's playing on special teams now as it is, so him losing redshirt eligibility isn't an issue. And after Smoker graduates after this season, Stanton will need to be The Man...

...What *is* the issue is apparently is that Smith is too proud to admit he made a mistake by putting Dowdell in to begin with, and his pride cost them the game...

...So we're watching you, John L. One more absolutely-retarded mistake like that and you better believe we want you GONE at the end of the season. We're from the state of Michigan after all, and we're sick of putting up with know-it-all, superiority-complex-ridden football coaches who make boneheaded play and calls when it counts. MSU put up with it with Bobby Williams, then unceremoniusly dumped him. It's amazing Morty Morhningweig was let out of Detroit alive after ruining the Lions for two straight seasons.

And Smith, we won't hesitate to run you AND your goofy-a** grin up a flagpole with a lead pipe through your forehead if you ever... EVER pull some stunt like this again. You obviously don't understand or comprehend what kind of situation you've entered. You think you're some big-name football coach walking in as the savior and have carte blanche. Well, YOU DON'T! You had better win, and you had better win NOW, and mistakes like this are unacceptable. There are NO exceptions."

At the time, I got a reply from some complete clown who didn't have the ball bearings to post anything other than anonymously (how proud he must have been). Here's part of it:

"I am the person who registered firejohnlsmith.com. I did so in December of 2002, not after the 2003 season began. The purpose was (and is) to "park" on the domain to prevent others from pulling a fireronzook. If you'd bothered to look at the placeholder site you'd understand.

Some nimrod did set up a Geocities site that did make an early call for Smith's firing, which it seems if he had a lick of sense he'd take down by now. Here it is:

www.geocities.com/firejohnsmith/"

Unfortunately, Mr. Richard Wiggins didn't realize I knew who he was anyways because he couldn't resists the allure of his own minor celebrity for being so "clever" as to park the domain, and he tried to get his name and site mentioned in as many places as possible. Nor did he realize that I could have cared less about his actual little site, because it would only be a matter of time and the tide would turn against Smith anyways.

So now here we are 2 years later. John L. Smith is still the same complete screw-up of a coach and his staff still the same complete bunch of losers.

And that "nimrod", as Mr. Wiggins called him, with the Geocities site still has his site up and has even continued to update it. And that "nimrod", as Mr. Wiggins called him, has also turned out to be EXACTLY RIGHT, just like I was about the guy. How upset is the Geocities guy? Check this quote out:

"Demand new leadership, even if it includes firing Ron Mason first."

That's how fed up MSU fans are... Ron Mason is an icon whose heart bleeds green and white, and and arguably the greatest college hockey coach of all-time. And fans are to the point where if they have to fire Mason first in order to dump Smith... they're quite willing to do it.

Well, Rich, you sure haven't said or done much since your little attempt to generate publicity for yourself and your parked domain, like some sort of MSU "savior". And in the meantime the rest of the Spartan loyal would just as much rather HANG Smith and his staff than let him coach another game and once again snatch defeat from the very jaws of victory.

And now I'm calling you out on it, Rich... hopefully so you can Google your little domain and your name just like you did the last time, and read the truth. You were wrong, and you were a self-centered jackass to message me over and act the way you did, what with the name-calling and sanctinonious tone and all...

And I'm 100% in the Fire Smith camp. He needs to be gone. Not at the end of the season, he and his staff needs to be fired before next weekend's game. There simply isn't anyone else that could do a worse job, so why not? The season's already wasted and blown anyways...

Smith and his staff are losers, and the Michigan State Spartans football program will always be losers under his regime, because they'll find a way to lose. That's what losers do.

We're waiting to hear back, Rich. You were oh-so eager to speak up back then...
